JACK johnson.

one thing i love about jack's music is that it's simple. and the one thing i don't like about going to his shows is that they are usually sold out, with 30,000 people, which is not simple...gives me anxiety. everything about the Santa Monica pier show last monday was simple. Instead of having to pick up trash for 2hrs like 2,000 of the people there, I just had to enter a twitter contest and win. we even showed up 10 min before the show and were still only 20ft away from the stage. i got to enjoy a little over an hour of music on top of the pacific ocean with a few of my close friends. (pure bliss)

jack released his fifth studio album today, but of course I got it early because I'm baller like that. I've probably listened to it 20 times already, with one specific song in particular that I've played more than the others. a little 58 second gem called "When I Look Up". it starts with the sound of rain, then acoustic guitar, then jack, then some female background harmonies, then rain, then it's done. almost too soon. other highlights include "My Little Girl", "No Good with Faces", "Pictures of People Taking Pictures" and "Anything But the Truth".

something to JAM to.

Yes I'll admit it, I sing in my car. And no, I don't care if people laugh me. I'll even dance a little too. This song is kind of a throw back that I liked on the radio at the time but for some reason never fully got into it.

This jam will be helping me on my drive to Northridge today, consider yourself lucky if you catch me rockin' out in my car :)

Awake My Soul

Tuesdays might be one of my favorite days of the week. It’s probably a close second to Saturdays, but I would definitely have to say it’s my favorite “middle of the week” day. Anyways...the reason I love Tuesdays so much is because someone back in the day decided that new music will be released on that day. The point I am trying to get at is that every once in a while some “new music Tuesdays” stand out more than others. This past Tuesday was one of those Tuesdays. Mumford & Sons released there album “Sigh No More” this week and let me tell you, it’s ear candy. Remember that scene in Titanic where Leo takes Kate down to the third class hangout and Kate stands on her tip-toes? Mumford & Sons captures that same raw, real vibe with their banjos and upbeat harmonizing choruses that makes you want to grab a beer and swing it right to left Oktoberfest style. From start to finish this album is excellent. The standout track for me is “Awake My Soul”, check it out below.

Freelance Whales on Grey's

I was watching Grey's Anatomy tonight like I've done every Thursday night since 2004, and what band did I hear? Only one of my favorite new bands Freelance Whales! it took me 2 seconds to realize it was them because I am only use to hearing them in my earphones. This band formed in the end of 2008 in New York and released their first album at the end of the summer 2009. How they put together this masterpiece in less than a year is beyond me. Their album Weathervanes is uhmazing and will instantly become your favorite. If your a fan of the Postal Service, this band might mend your broken heart and help you cope with the fact that the PS aren't reuniting for another album (tear). My favorite part about their huge band is that there is an instrument in there for every ear. My personal favorite is the banjo. The song "Starring" was played on Grey's tonight, but my favorite track is "Location". Check it out below. Ohh and do yourself a favor and listen to the whole album. Before you know it you will have already played it 3 times in a row. It's that good.

COACHELLA

With coachella still two whole months away, I pass the time by creating playlists. This only seems to make the anticipation greater. I must admit, the camping part makes me nervous (public showers eek), but I am so excited to live the life of a woodstock hippie for three days and wear headbands and take crazy pictures. Only 64 days till music heaven...(le sigh). Until then I will have to settle with my AWESOME playlists.
